“Thirteen years ago we bought a pig...”

Our First Pig

13 years ago, at the height of the potbellied pig fad, we decided it was time to get a new pet, something other than a cat or dog. We thought a pig might be fun. At a farm that bred potbellies, we fell for a tiny black piglet and soon Nigel Pigasso was a member of our family. The affectionate pig loved to cuddle on the couch and romp around on the property. When we joined the California Pot Belly Pig Association, we were horrified to learn about hundreds of potbellies who were abandoned by fickle owners who hadn’t expected a pig to grow to 200 pounds.

A Rescue is Born

When another member of the association told us about an abandoned pig who limped from a poorly healed broken leg, we took him in and Bodie “Bodacious Pig” became a member of our family. When word got out that we would take in pigs, the calls started coming in. Would we take in Hammish? How about Jazz? We just couldn’t say no.

Where We Are Today

Currently we have 37 pigs and are pretty much at our limit for our two and a half acres. We have taken in several “boarders” who ended up as permanent residents. When the pigs come here, they have a forever home. Occasionally, we take in pigs that would make a wonderful pig for the right family and we will consider adoption if the perfect home is found. You can check our Adoption page if you are interested. Potential families are screened carefully and we do a home check to determine if you have adequate space and accomodations.
