I made the decision to have Arnold put to sleep on Monday and today Dr. Meyers came out to do it. The tumors were multiplying almost visibly and it was going to be a very short time before Arnold would be sick. I wanted his last days to be happy ones. The pigs and I had a going away party for him and we had candy bars, cereal, and a sweet potato pie. We finished off the pie just before Dr. Meyers got there. Dr. Meyers was shocked over the aggressiveness of the cancer and said the decision to put Arnold to sleep had been a good one. He said he had never seen such a thing in a pig before. Arnold will be missed more than I can say and he’ll be in my heart forever.

I can’t believe how fast this is going. The original five seem bigger and now he has two more forming on his neck. I saw a tiny bump yesterday, but hoped it was nothing. today that one is beginning to open like the others.

| You can see the tumors by his penus from any angle. It’s the dark spot before his belly. |
Arnold had an ulcerated tumor removed on Saturday, October 7th, 2006. It was the size of a flat tennis ball and the vet was pretty sure he got all of it. The report came back two weeks later that the tumor was malignant. I wasn’t sure what that would mean, but I heard from sanctuaries that they had pigs with cancer who were fine, so I hoped that would be the case. today I found he had five ulcerated tumors the size of quarters all along the incision where the vet removed the first one. They weren’t there last weekend. His belly also has masses that feel like different sized rocks. He is eating, peeing and pooping, and the tumors don’t seem to cause him discomfort.
