black pig in igloo

Leroy

Status: Male
Born: Unknown approx. 1996
In: February 17, 2001
From: Redwings Horse Sanctuary
Sponsored By: Bill, Dawn, and Danielle, in memory of their pig, Penny.

Leroy lived in a pasture and ate only scraps. Even those he had to fight for because the goats pushed him away. Redwings Horse Sanctuary got him away from that situation, had him neutered, and kept him until he could come to Belly Draggers. He was painfully thin and his bones stuck out all over. Today he is a happy pig. He's well-fed and loves his warm bed and blankets. While he’s a little stand-off-ish about being touched, Leroy is thrilled to take treats from your hand. He is a very special addition to the Belly Draggers herd!

Luli with other pigs and Eva

Luli

Status: Female
Born: Unknown, approx. 1995
Died: November 29, 2004
In: July, 1996
From: San Martin Animal Shelter

Luli was one of the first pigs at Belly Draggers. She came from the shelter, so she was either dropped off or running loose. She has always been mostly blind; however, she knows where everything is and gets along fine. Luli has the “honor of having the only unplanned pregnancy at Belly Draggers. Late one night, someone brought in Bonnie and Spike. Their owner said Spike was neutered, but the next morning when it became light, it was apparent that he was not. Sometime in the middle of the night Spike visited Luli. Three months later Luli surprised everyone with Pigbert. As soon as he was weaned, he was adopted out and renamed Harley.

Update November 30, 2005:

Luli passed away in her sleep in November. She spent her last night with Jessie, her best friend. She had an ovarian tumor. We miss her very much.

big pig with an underbite

Mi Bella

Status: Female
Born: 1997
Died: July 22, 2006
In: April 28, 2005
From: San Luis Obispo Shelter

We got a call from Ellen at San Louis Obispo Shelter when Ellen took in a pig and realized how sweet she is. Ellen was worried that with the $5.00 adoption fee, the pig may end up as someone's bar-b-que. Eva named her Mi Bella because she's is so homely that she's adorable. She sleeps most of the time and only comes out of her igloo early in the morning and in the evening to eat.

Update July 22, 2006:

Mi Bella was another pig who developed an ovarian tumor. We only had her for a little over a year, but she was very happy with us. She had rhinitis as well, making surgery a great risk. We said good bye to her, Minnie, and Bonnie the same day.

silver pigs

Mike & Ike

Status: Male
Born: November 25, 2002
In: January 17, 2005
From: Owner Surrender

These two pigs are brothers and where one is, the other is sure to be close. We call them “The Gray Ghosts because of their unusual coloring. The two have long legs and can cover quite a distance in a short time. They love to be out in the pasture together. They are a little shy around strangers, but happy to take a treat out of a hand. Right now they can only be out in the evening when no other pigs are out so they don't get into any fights. Mike is the tall one in the front. Ike is a little shorter.

Update March 23, 2005:

We found a great home for Mike & Ike where they have room to roam and no other pigs to fight with. Monica & Mike have them up at their place near Pt. Reyes. They are doing great!

Update August, 2005:

Sadly, Mike passed away due to a strange event. He got himself trapped in an area where he could have gotten out, but didn't know he could just push through the bushes and walk out. He got very upset and panicked. When he was found, he looked fine, but drank too much water too soon and it did something to his system and he died. Ike is still doing great, but misses Mike because they were always together.
