Adoption
The pigs on this page are happy at Belly Draggers Ranch, but their
small size, age or personality make them very adoptable to the right
person or family. Adoptive families can come out to see the pigs and
go through an interview process that includes a home check. If you are
interested, please fill out the
On-line Questionnaire
that will help you and us decide if a pet pig is right for you. In addition,
Arlen Wilbers, D.V.M. has written an excellent article
on some of the
basics of pig care. If you are from somewhere outside California and are interested in adopting a pig, please see a
list of sanctuaries sorted by state.
Zoe - Adopted!
Zoe has been adopted by a wonderful family north of us! They have adopted pigs from us in the past and they have a variety of other animals as well. Their place is animal paradise! Hopefully we will have pictures of Zoe in her new home soon.
Abby
Abby has one of the cutest faces we’ve ever seen. She is forever
following whomever is out in the barnyard, poking her sweet snout on the
back of a leg hoping for a treat. She came to Belly Draggers in September, 2002
at eighteen months old. Eva saw a sign that said, “Pot Belly Pig For Sale.”
Eva told the owners she would take the pig as a rescue, but that our sanctuary does not buy pigs.
Under those conditions, the owners agreed to give her up.
Abby was very wary of humans at first, but has warmed up nicely. If the right
home were found, she would make a great addition to the family. She is close to
5 years old.
Nikki - Adopted!
Nikki is now living in Los Banos with a terrific family. Eva and Ercell have been out to see her and she is very, very happy!
The following is from Melissa, who adopted Nikki:
“Yesterday was Austen's first day back to school. Nikki is doing great. She is really
a joy, especially to me. She's on a regular schedule now with food, naps,
bed and attention. She designed the schedule, we added in the attention.
The first thing I have always done every morning is to open up the
window facing the garden. It took Nikki about two days to realize that.
It's so precious. She drags her quilt out of her house and lays on it in
the corner of her yard under the window. She waits for me to open it and
say, “Good morning Nikki piggy face.” Then she grunts little grunts and
jumps up with her waggy tail to meet me at the gate for breakfast. With
Austen getting older and more into his friends and outside activities, I
am really enjoying my new friend.”
